April: please don’t go.
Adam: don’t make this harder than it already is.
April: it wouldn’t be hard if you just stayed here.
Adam: I can’t.
April: but you can Adam.
Adam looks down.
Adam: I don’t want to.
April lets go of his hand.
April: what?
Adam looks down again
Adam: I don’t wanna stay here and be with you.
April: what?
Adam: I have to go.

Lorelai: of course I’ll marry you forever and always.
Luke smiles, and places the ring on Lorelai’s finger. They kiss.

Rory: what matter?
Luke: whether or not Jess should be kept on Life Support.
Rory goes to the door.
Rory (crying): if you go through with this, I will have nothing for you.
Rory leaves.

Lorelai: I’m sure you’ve been informed about the Life Support thing.
Liz: yeah.
Lorelai: well that’s what this is all about.
Liz: your sad?
Rory (sniffling): yeah, aren’t you?
Liz: no, I want him to get off of Life Support. He didn’t want to be on it, so I don’t think he should be on it.
Rory (crying): what does it matter what he wants, we want him to be alive.

Doctor #2: okay, were gonna flip the switch.
Luke and Liz nod their heads. Rory goes up to Jess’s ear.
Rory (whispering): please don’t leave me okay?
Rory grabs a hold of Jess’s hand. Liz pats her back.
Doctor #2: here we go.
The doctor flips the switch.

They all wait patiently to see what happens. Rory bends down and puts her chin on his upper arm. No one says a sound. Then Jess takes his first breath on his own. Everyone sighs. Luke and Lorelai hug. Liz and TJ hug. Rory kisses his arm.
Rory (whispering): thank you.
Doctor #2: Well this is extraordinary.
Liz: it is?
Doctor #2: yes, most people who are on Life Support, and are taken off so suddenly don’t make it. He must have had something he wanted to stay for.
They all look at Rory.
Doctor #2: aww…I see.
Liz: thank you so much.
Doctor #2: your welcome.
The doctor goes to the door.
Lorelai: excuse me doctor?
Doctor #2: yes?
Lorelai: what’s your name?
The doctor smiles.
Doctor #2: it’s Gavin.
Lorelai: thank you.
Gavin leaves. Lorelai looks at Rory who is smiling.
Lorelai: I get the five dollars.
Rory: oh whatever, you can’t just ask like that.
Lorelai: I just did.
Lorelai looks at Luke.
Lorelai: I guess we better be getting back, it’s getting late.
Luke looks at Rory, who is still holding Jess’s hand.
Luke: yeah, I guess so.
Luke walks to the door.
Luke: bye guys, I’ll probably see you tomorrow, make sure little girl is with you.
Liz: yeah, we’re gonna go get “little girl” from TJ’s mom’s, then go to our Stars Hollow house.
Lorelai looks at Liz.
Lorelai: can I ask you a question?
Liz: yeah.
Lorelai: why do you have a Stars Hollow house if you don’t ever live in it?
Liz: cause Stars Hollow will always be home to me, and it’s nice to have it to fall back on.
Lorelai shakes her head.
Lorelai: okay, I just wondered.
Liz smiles.
Lorelai: bye Rory, we’ll see you tomorrow. Call if you need anything.
Rory: okay.
Lorelai and Luke leave.
TJ: you ready honey?
Liz: yeah, can you give me a second?
TJ: yeah, I’ll be getting something from the snack machine.
Liz: ooo, see if they have peanut m&m‘s.
TJ leaves. Liz goes over to Rory.
Liz: Rory?
Rory: yeah.
Liz: I’m sorry that we took Jess off of Life Support, but he made it, so it’s okay.
Rory: but what if he hadn’t made it? What would you have done? Wouldn’t you have felt bad that you could have kept your son alive and didn’t?
Liz: if Jess didn’t survive without Life Support, he wouldn’t have been able to survive without it down the road.
Rory nods her head.
Liz: but he’s here and he stayed.
Liz looks down at Rory, and bends down.
Liz: for you.
Rory looks at Liz, and tears start building up in her eyes.
Rory: I’m sorry Liz, I shouldn’t have got so mad about it.
Liz: oh honey, don’t apologize I would have done the same thing if I was in your place.
Rory: Jess never told me he didn’t want to be on Life Support.
Liz: well you know, it’s not something you go around telling everyone.
Rory smiles.
Rory: I guess not.
Liz and Rory stand up. Liz hugs Rory.
Liz: it’ll be okay. He’s not going anywhere, as long as you aren’t.
Rory: I’m not.
Liz smiles.
Liz: I better be going or TJ will spend all our money at the snack machine.
Liz goes to the door.
Rory: I’m still sorry Liz.
Liz smiles and leaves. Rory sits down next to Jess.
Rory: when you wake up, your gonna have hell to pay. Just be prepared.

THE NEXT MORNING

Rory wakes up and sees Raquel.
Raquel: oh sorry, did I wake you?
Rory: oh no, it’s okay.
Raquel changes something on a machine.
Raquel: I’m sorry about your husband. It must be hard.
Rory looks around.
Rory: oh Jess isn’t my husband.
Raquel: oh sorry, I mean you haven’t left his side since he’s been here I just figured you were his wife.
Rory: no, were just really close.
Raquel: okay.
Raquel leaves.

April tip-toes into the kitchen. She looks around and grabs the phone. She tip-toes back into Rory’s room, and shuts the door. She dials a few numbers. She waits and listens.
Adam (voice): Hey you reached Adam, I’m back in town, let’s hang out. Oh….you reached my voicemail leave a message. And if this is Spike clean out your inbox!! Peace.
April hangs up the phone, and sets it on the bed. April lays down and hugs a stuffed cow.

Taylor: are you sure these pills are going to take care of my headaches doctor? Cause you know I don’t really want to…….
Doctor #3: yes. Now Taylor please leave.
Taylor: okay. Okay.
Taylor grabs the pills and leaves.

THAT NIGHT

Lorelai: Hey Rory.
Rory looks up from her magazine. Luke walks in behind Lorelai.
Lorelai: how’s he doing?
Rory: really good. Gavin said that he was doing awesome for a coma patient.
Lorelai: well that’s really good.
Rory: I thought so too.
Luke looks at Lorelai.
Luke: I’m gonna go get some water.
Lorelai nods her head, and goes over to sit next to Rory on the couch.
Lorelai: how are you doing?
Rory: me?
Lorelai: yeah.
Rory: I’m good, but I should be. You shouldn’t mom, your getting married.
Lorelai: oh let’s not talk about that.
Rory: what? Why not?
Lorelai: I just think that until Jess’ wakes up we shouldn’t make any wedding arrangements.
Rory: well mom you haven’t told anyone so……..
Lorelai: well I mean the people I would tell are all down about this Jess thing.
Rory: mom?
Lorelai: yeah?
Rory: Sookie? She’s sad?
Lorelai: oh Sookie.
Rory: yeah.
Lorelai: oh crap.
Rory smiles.
Lorelai: okay you made me talk now I get to make you.
Rory: I didn’t make you talk, you wanted to change the subject.
Lorelai: oh well.
Rory scoffs.
Lorelai: anyways, are you ever gonna forgive Luke.
Rory looks at Lorelai.
Lorelai: I know you said that if he went through with it you would have nothing for him, but Jess stayed he didn’t pass on, so don’t you think you could say sorry to Luke?
Rory: mom.
Lorelai: it’s not my decision. It’s yours, I’ve never been one to tell you what to do or how, but if it was me I would apologize, cause Luke didn’t want to pull the plug honey, he did what Jess wanted.
Rory nods her head.
Rory: I know.
Lorelai: and if you would have known what Jess would have wanted, wouldn’t you have done it?
Rory: I guess, but I wouldn’t have made that slit-second decision. I would have took in how he was doing, if he was doing great I would have, but Jess had pulled a flat line, and all that, so I would have waited a couple more days at least.
Lorelai: so maybe he didn’t do it at the right time. But Jess survived so he did.
Rory sighs.
Lorelai: you do what you want to do, what you think is best. I’m just putting my input in.
Rory nods her head.
Lorelai: I’m gonna go find Luke, think about it.
Lorelai leaves. Rory looks at Jess.
Rory: I know I know. Forgive him. You wouldn’t be saying that if you were dead.
Luke walks in.
Luke: oh have you seen your mom?
Rory: she went to go find you.
Luke: okay thanks.
Rory: Luke. Wait.
Luke: yeah?
Rory: I’m really sorry about how I reacted about Jess.
Luke: it’s okay Rory.
Rory: it’s not. I shouldn’t have ever acted like that.
Luke smiles.
Luke: your human Rory, you have emotions, and feelings, and being human means your gonna show them.
Rory smiles.
Luke: come here.
Rory and Luke hug. Lorelai walks in.
Lorelai: oh good.
Luke smiles, and let’s go of Rory
Lorelai: we probably should be getting back to April.
Luke: yeah.
Lorelai: bye Rory.
Luke and Lorelai leave. Rory sits back down next to Jess.
Rory: yeah I forgave him. You can stop smiling.
Rory smiles.
Rory: what would I do without you.

Taylor runs into Luke’s.
Luke: sorry were closed Taylor.
Taylor: Luke there’s aliens falling from the sky.
Luke goes over to the window and looks out.
Luke: Taylor. There’s no aliens.
Taylor: there is they were after me.
Luke sees the pill bottle in Taylor’s hand.
Luke: what are those?
Taylor: pills to make my headaches go away. There’s one right there.
Luke looks back out the window.
Taylor: right there. You see it. It’s after me. It’s coming to the door.
Taylor runs over and locks the door. Luke grabs the pills out of Taylor’s hand.
Luke: these pills, are the same one Kirk was taking since he was a little boy, and he is not right in the head. Are you sure you want to take these?
Taylor: give them back to me. Yes I’m sure. Oh good there gone.
Taylor unlocks the door and runs out.
Taylor: your not gonna get me.
Taylor sticks his tongue out to the midnight sky.
Luke shakes his head.
Luke: joy another lunatic.
